Bolt Arrives in Rio Ahead of Olympics

Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt touched down at the Antônio Carlos Jobim, Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as he gets ready to launch his Olympics 2016 campaign.

Bolt arrived at approximately 8:00pm (6pm Jamaica time) with his team that includes executive manager and best friend Nugent Walker and his massage therapist Everald ‘Eddie’ Edwards.

He was met by a large group of Brazilian journalists but was quickly led to a waiting vehicle.

When asked by one reporter if he had dreamt about gold medals on his long flight to the Brazilian city, the sprinter offered: “I didn’t sleep at all.”

The Jamaican is looking to successfully defend his 100m and 200m gold medals, which he won at both the 2008 and 2012 Games in Beijing and London respectively.

His preparation for the Olympics was not without setbacks, however, as a hamstring injury forced him out of Jamaica’s Olympic trials on July 1.

He returned to the track last Friday at the London Diamond League, clocking a strong 19.88 as he won the 200m – his first since winning gold at the World Championships last year.

Bolt will later this evening join up with the rest of the Jamaican team members – including Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake, who are already at a pre-Games training camp, which is based at a nearby Naval Academy.

Sixty-three athletes in athletics, swimming, diving and gymnastics will represent Jamaica at the Olympic Games, which run from August 5-21.
