Rugby: New Zealand World Cup Winning Coach Extends Contract To 2019

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen has extended his contract with the All Blacks until the end of the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

Hansen, 57, guided his country to their third World Cup triumph last year after beating Australia in the final.

The former Wales coach, whose previous deal was due to run out in 2017, has been boss since 2012.

“Once I had confirmed some considerations, it really was a no brainer to continue,” said Hansen.

Otago-born Hansen will lead his side in three Tests against the British and Irish Lions in 2017, and the All Blacks will be hoping for another World Cup win two years later.

Hansen added: “Having the opportunity to be part of a team that will be trying to win three consecutive Rugby World Cups is both an invigorating and exciting challenge and one I’m very much looking forward to being part of.”
