I Still Won"t Take Penalties - Gyan

Ghana Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has emphasized on his decision to never take a penalty kick whilst on national team duty.

The former Sunderland striker took the decision after missing a last-minute penalty kick that could have secured Ghana a record semi-final appearance in the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

And Gyan, upon arrival, was a target of verbal abuse via media discussions, culminating in his late mother advising him to stay off penalty duties.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Anapabosuo sports show, the Shanghai SIPG forward, when quizzed on whether he has rescinded his decision, replied “No” adding, he “has no plans” to do so.

“I am still not taking penalties for Ghana. I do my best for Black Stars, but if people will insult me when I miss, then let others take it . It’s a pledge I made to my late mother and I’m sticking to it, it will help us all.”
