AngloGold Ashanti, financiers of Ghana Premier League (GPL) side, Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, won’t finance the club anymore at the end of this year.
The mining company which has main office in Johannesburg, South Africa, is financially handicapped and do not intend to finance club.
Sources say the Company is not operating in Obuasi anymore and can’t continue to support the club.
The company, which began operations in Ghana in 2004, had wanted to end their financial responsibilities last year because they borrowed from their mother house in Johannesburg, but the intervention of head of Operations in Ghana, Mr. Keli Pheli saved the club, and they are not ready to continue anymore.
Sportscrusader.com has gathered that about four companies are ready to step as investors, but an agreement is yet to be reached.
The reason behind the Board of the club reluctance to sign on one of the companies as the chief investor is unclear, but sources say Mr. Nana Ampofo, who is leading the negotiations confirmed signing pre-agreement with on of the investors.
The said (name withheld) has also shown readiness to finance the club on probation for a year, and if they are convinced, he will take full control of the club.
