Bukom Boxing TV visited Sacred Heart Technical Institute Boxing Gym in James Town, Accra, and sat down with head trainer Nuhu Omaboe. Omaboe, at 27-years-old, is the youngest lead trainer in Ghana. Full transcript included below:
BBN: Welcome to Bukom Boxing TV.
NO: Thank You.
BBN: Nuhu, at 27-years-old, you are the youngest boxing trainer in Ghana. Do you feel that is an advantage or disadvantage?
NO: I have the advantage because being a young trainer, I have the strength to train the boxers and I have gathered enough experience because I was nurtured by the late Godwin Nii Dzane Kotey (Coach Alloway) and also worked under Coach Akai Nettey who was his assistant.
BBN: At that age, most people involved with boxing are usually fighting themselves. What made you decide to become a trainer?
NO: I just wanted to be a trainer because I went through that mill under the late Godwin Nii Dzane Kotey. He gave me a lot of lessons so I decided to help some of the young boxers to become champions.
BBN: Are there similarities between you and Godwin Kotey Dzane, because you are called Alloway Jr?
NO: There is but he has had more experience than me, he has traveled to a lot of countries to acquire more knowledge so let us wait and see what will happen next.
BBN: For those who don’t know much about you, tells us about your style as a trainer?
NO: My style is boxing, not fighting. Now boxing is not about fighting, you have to punch and defend.
BBN: Which boxers are under your care currently?
NO: We just started and now we are training juvenile boxers and you just saw them training. We have decided to enroll professional fighters and we have started doing that.
BBN: Of these boxers, is there anyone you feel stands out?
NO: I have many potential boxers: juvenile boxers like Mohammed “Golden Boy” Aryeequaye, Nii Kotey known as Africa and Korley Collison.
BBN: What is your goals for the boxers who are under your care?
NO: To train them to become world champions in the future, so we have just started from the grassroot because all the former world champions started from the grassroot.
BBN: Your finals words to Ghanaians?
NO: All I want to tell Ghanaians is, you just need to be focus and be serious in everything you do, that is all.
BBN: Thank You for your time.
NO: I’m most grateful.
