Leicester City Close in On Signing Ex Man United Keeper

Leicester City are set to make Germany international Ron-Robert Zieler their first signing of the summer after the goalkeeper’s club Hannover 96 revealed he is close to joining the Premier League champions.

Zieler, 27, who began his career at Manchester United before returning to Germany, was part of Joachim Low’s World Cup winning squad in 2014 although he did not play in Brazil.

His contract with relegated Hannover contains a €3.5m (£2.6m) release clause, with Manchester City and Everton among those linked in the past.

A statement published on Hannover’s official website on Sunday read: ‘Ron-Robert Zieler has informed us that he will travel to meet English champions Leicester and hold contract talks with them. In addition, he will complete a medical while in England.’

Zieler, who spent time on loan at Northampton while on Manchester United’s books, was part of Germany’s World Cup-winning squad in 2014 but did not make an appearance in Brazil.

The Cologne-born keeper has made over 200 league appearances for Hannover.
