Twumasi Deserves Black Stars Call-Up - Grant

Ghana Black Stars head coach, Avram Grant has admitted young forward, Patrick Twumasi deserves the national team call up he received.

The Astana FC striker was called up for the first time as Ghana prepares to play the Mauritius on June 5 in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 qualifier.

Twumasi, 22, received the call up as a replacement to injured duo, Asamoah Gyan and Majeed Waris with the Astana striker boasting of a fine form in front of goal with 4-goals in 6 UEFA Champions league games the highlight of his season.

And this Grant believes warranted his call up and hopes he makes the best of the opportunity when called upon to make his debut.

“Asamoah Gyan and Waris’ injury meant other players have the opportunity to show their quality and Patrick (Twumasi) has been doing well since the commencement of the just ended season.”

“He has scored lot of goals in both the champions league and the domestic league (in Kazahkstan). The injury has given him the chance to represent Ghana and I hope he will grab this with both hands,” he added.

The Black Stars will hold the second day training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.
