Game Boy Knocks Out Magali To Retain WBA Title

Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe has successfully defended his WBA International lightweight title after knocking out Filipino boxer Carlo Magali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday Night.

The Round 9 knock out ensured that Tagoe takes his impressive boxing record to 26-1(13KO).

The bout, under the auspices of Baby Jet Promotions and Box Office Sports Promotions, was witnessed by several dignitaries including Ghana sports minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije, International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Azumah Nelson, former world champions Nana Yaw Konadu and Alfred Kotey, and Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Peter Zwennes.

The dignitaries however, did not leave in dismay as “Game Boy”,  the defending champion made light work of Magali in what was a thoroughly entertaining bout.

Tagoe dominated the bout from the first round until his opponent was unable to continue the fight in round nine.

And speaking to reporters after the victory, the Ghanaian fighter said his utmost ambition is to have a shot at the world and he is on course to achieving it.

“The gameplan was to stop Magali in round six but he proved stubborn,” Tagoe said.

“I thank the fans for their support. Magali is a warrior because with all the punishment I gave him, he managed to travel to round eight.

“The next target is to get a world title shot and that has been the plan since from day one and we are on course in achieving that. I would like to thank my promoters Baby Jet Promotions for believing in me and I will not let them down”, the Game Boy added.

Magali trainer Joven Jorden post-fight comments congratulated Tagoe describing the victory as a deserved one.

“I want to congratulate Tagoe for the win, he really deserved it,” he said.

“We came into the fight with a strategy to attack but Tagoe was too good as the second round cut took a lot out of my boxer.

“With this kind of performance displayed by Tagoe, I think he is ready for a world title shot when he is given the opportunity and I wish him good luck in his future bouts.” Jorden added.
