Bayern Munich star Mehdi Benatia has hinted at a possible return to Roma, Express reports.
The 29-year-old left Rome back in 2014, but has been unable to hold down a regular role with the Bundesliga giants.
His place in the squad is set to be in further jeopardy following speculation that Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels is closing in on a move to the Allianz Arena.
Manager Arsene Wenger is keen to add the Morocco international to his back line this summer, but Benatia has now revealed that he would consider a return to the Serie A if the opportunity arises.
“I would certainly do it, everyone knows that Rome is a special place for me,” he said.
“So many people have remained in my heart.”
Gunners fans expect a number of transfer reinforcements during the upcoming window, given that Wenger was heavily criticised for only signing Petr Cech last summer.
Benatia has only featured in 12 Bundesliga matches this term, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
