Juan Mata is not expected to be in Manchester United squad next season as Jose Mourinho prepares to show the Spaniard the Old Trafford exit doors.
Mata, who earns £170,000-a-week (via Mirror), moved to Manchester from Chelsea back in 2014 and has since impressed for the Red Devils, finishing the 2015/16 Premier League campaign with six goals and five assists to his name as part of a United outfit which often struggled for creativity.
But the attacking midfielder proved their most imaginative spark, carving out 53 chances for his team-mates, 11 more than anyone at the club, capping off his season with the equalising goal in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace to win the club its first FA Cup since 2004.
At just 28 years of age, Mata certainly still has a lot to offer but his future has been thrown into question over the past few days after news broke that Mourinho is set to take over from Louis van Gaal as manager.
The Portuguese deemed the playmaker surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge two years ago and shipped him off to United and if he does indeed take charge at Old Trafford, Harry Redknapp fully expects to see the same happen again.
Juan Mata has done well for United and scored some important goals — not least in the FA Cup final — but Mourinho let him go at Chelsea and I wouldn’t have thought the Spaniard is in his plans,” the current Jordanian coach Redknapp told Daily Mail.
