Michael and Adegoke Win Mcdan Open West Africa Tennis

Moses Michael and Sarah Adegoke from Nigeria won the 2016 Mcdan Open West Africa Championship men’s and women’s singles events which ended on Saturday in Accra Sports stadium Tennis Court.

Michael earlier defeated Eric Tetteh Nartey 6-1,6-2 in the quarter-finals and Joel Meda from Burkina Faso 2-6,6-2,6-4-6 In the semi-final before  beating Wisdom Na-Adjrago in two straight sets 7-5, 6-1. The final match lasted for 2hrs 30mins, both players displayed beautiful tennis skills for fans and dignitaries gathered.

After his win, Michael said “my victory was the result of hard work and perseverance”. He added that “It was not an easy game, especially when you are playing away from home in a final were the is home support for your opponent, Wisdom went up 4-2 in first set, I talked to myself several times and immediately remembered the target I set myself which is to win the ultimate Prize and I thank God I came out victorious”.


 


In the second set Michael held his nerve better on the big points and fully deserved the victory. He sealed it with one of the best serves in the game, calm yet punishing two-fisted backhand that steadily dismantled Wisdom defensive game, as well as a delightful array of forehand winners.


 


Moses who is currently ranked 1402 in World and No.1 in Nigeria won 1000.00 dollars and a trophy with some product from sponsors rush Energy drink andBabolat sportswear


 


In an interview with Wisdom Na-Adjrago after the match, he told tennisgh that “my best was not enough; I lost concentration in the first when I was leading 4-2, Michael came back strongly and broke my serve to win 7-5. He added that “I made some mistakes that I have learnt rom, but hopefully, I will come out next year a better player.”


 


Koforidua based Wisdom Na-Adjrago also won USD 600.00 some products from sponsors Rush Energy Drink and Babolat sportswear and a silver trophy. Moses Michael took away USD 1000, gold trophy, Babolat Tennis shoes and racquets and products from Rich Energy Drink.


 







The Championship headlined by McDan Group with support from West Blue Consulting and Twellium industries.
