Former President of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), Ben Koufie , has passed away at the age of 84.
This sad event occurred at the Korle Bu teaching hospital on Monday.
The 84 year old was very successful as a player where he played for Kumasi Cornerstones and Ebusua Dwarfs and represented the Black Stars from 1957 to 1958
Uncle Ben Koufie was considered one of the finest administrators having being at the helm of Ghana Football from 2001 -2003 after serving as the technical director of the Botswana FA for eight years.
He coached the Black Stars from 1970-73 after he had played for the senior national team in the late 50’s.
He also led Asante Kotoko to the Africa Club Championship in 1971 before he managed Great Olympics, African Sports in Ivory Coast and Akosombo Akotex.
Mr. Koufie then moved on to coach the Zimbabwean national team between 1988 to 1992.
As President (Chairman) of the GFA, Mr Koufie is best remembered for instituting the 5-year development which is regarded as a bedrock for Ghana’s resurgence in African football.
