GPL PREVIEW: Wa All Stars Host Chelsea

Ghana Premier league leaders Wa All Stars return to domestic action after an FA cup setback in the local derby.

The Northern Blues were stunned by second tier side Wa Rockets FC in the quarter finals of the 2016 FA Cup over the weekends ahead of their clash with Berekum Chelsea at the Malik Jabir Park.

A lone strike from marksman Richard Arthur inflicted a 0-1 reverse on the 2010/11 league champions to hand Wa All Stars its first victory at the Golden city park in their seventh attempt.

Enos Adepa Kwame and his early season pacesetters surged top of the log after the opening 15 rounds of the championship but will have to up their game if their medal aspirations are to be achieved.

The table toppers can however head into Sunday’s clash with Solomon Odwo’s Blues without any fear in mind, having never lost to the 2011 CAF Champions league semi-finalist at home.

The visitors have managed a paltry 2 clean sheet in the first half of the season whiles Wa All Stars defense have been breached just once in 630 minutes at home.

Berekum Chelsea can however rely on their talismanic center forward Saddick Alhassan for the three contested points at stake when they take to the Wa Park on Sunday, June 26, 2016 after his missed chance to join Hearts of oak.

Solomon Odwo’s visitors finished the first half of the season on a downward spiral highlighted by the 3-1 spanking at Tema.

A run of seven games without a win at the Wa Park for the depleted visitors however does not give any hope head of crunch clash on Sunday.

Marksman for Wa All Stars Richard Arthur racked home 6 goals in the opening half of the season whiles Saddick Adams leads the scoring chart for the Brong Ahafo based visitors with seven odd strikes to his name.

Injuries to key duo in Mumuni Wahidu and Moses Nyarko could hand new comer Roger Dakurah a rear opportunity at the back.

Wa All Stars have lost just three of their match day 16 fixtures in 8 attempts including a 2-0 win over WAFA SC in last year’s opening match of the second round.

Officials : Reginald Lathbridge, Richard Appiah, Sarfo Adade, Adu Poku.
