Bizarre Half Time Talk Sees France Seal 1/8th Spot

Matchwinner Antoine Griezmann has revealed that a half-time exchanging of views was the key in France turning around their Euro 2016 round-of-16 tie with Ireland.


Martin O’Neill’s man took a shock lead through Robbie Brady’s second-minute penalty and held out until the break after some desperate defending.

But Les Bleus came out a different side for the second period.


“We didn’t play well in the first half and we said things in the changing room,” said Griezmann, with Dimitri Payet adding “our first half wasn’t good enough.

And France boss Didier Deschamps admitted that he needed to be blunt with his players to make a point.


“I raised my voice. We needed to keep calm but also to shake them up a little bit.


“The players… even some of the players who were on the bench were talking. That’s because we have a good group here.
