GPL Review: Hearts, Wa All Stars Win as Kotoko and Aduana Drop Points

The Ghana Premier league returned across all match venues with contrasting results for the competing clubs in the championship.


Leaders Wa All Stars tamed Berekum Chelsea at the Wa Park to complete the double over the Brong Ahafo based side while Aduana Stars, Liberty Professionals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko all dropped points in the opening matches of the second round.


At the Malik Jabir Park in Wa, Ismail Abdul Ganiu headed home the only goal of the game as Wa All Stars posted a fully deserved 1-0 win over Solomon Odwo’s Blues. Star forward Saddick had an off day at the office as his side labored to a 1-0 defeat drop into the 9th slot.


West African Football Academy WAFA SC begun life without John Killa with a 2-1 win over reigning champions Ashgold at the Astro turf Sogakope pitch.  Two sumptuous strikes from Martin Antwi and Charles Boateng made Shafiu Mumuni’s consolation goal irrelevant. The Academy boys moved into the seventh place on the chart as Ashgold continue to search for their first win in 8 games.


In the natons capital, Cosmos Daud opened his season’s campaign in a 1-0 win for Hearts of oak over Dreams FC.


The promising Dauda racked home the only strike of the game in a thrilling game for the Phobians as they open a post Kennichi erra. Hearts of oak still trail Wa All Stars by 2 points.







Former Kumasi Asante versatile wideman Chrisoppher Bonney flawed Liberty Professionals at the new cape coast stadium to hand Ebusua Dwarfs survival boost. Bonney scored the only goal for the mistery club in a fully deserved 1-0 triumph for the premier league pioneers.


Bright Adiei’s goal for Aduana Stars counted for nothing as goals from Abdenougou Tetteh and Yaw Arnold won the local derby for Bechem United. The host avenged a 4-2 spanking suffered at the hands of their regional rivals to lessen any fears of joining the drop.


Stephen Manu ‘BA’ opened the scoring for Techiman City at home to Kotoko but a later strike from Amos Frimppong shared the spoil for the reds.  Techiman City remains unbeaten at home alongside Wa All Stars as they extended their honey mean journey into 16 games into the top flight


Former Wa All Stars trainer Jimmy James Corbblah masterminded another home win for Inter Allies in a 1-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas at the Tema Park. The Eleven is to One zoomed past their guest on the log with 18 points to their name.


The last of the eight fixtures saw Godfred Aseamah pocketing the only goal for New Edubiase at their new home grounds in a 1-0 win over CAF confederation participants Medeama SC.


A total of 13 goals were registered in the opening weekends of the second half by 13 different scorers from 11 clubs.


A massive 7 home wins from the 8 matches however included 7 first half goals and 6 in the second department.
