The 10-day tournament, which is also the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup Qualifier (ICC CWCQ), starts from Wednesday September 10, to Monday September 19, 2016.
Ghana will join six other countries in Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Sierra Leone and Nigeria for the continental showdown.
The competing countries will compete in an ODI round robin game for the sole slot to the ICC World Cup, slated for New Zealand in 2018.
The early departure will allow team Ghana to acclimatize with the whether and pitch from 1st to 8th before heading to the tournament Hotel (Garden Hotel).
Ghana plays her first 50 overs with Botswana on the 10th of September 2016, continue with Sierra Leone and Zambia on 11th and 12th before resting on 13th. They will Play Rwanda and Tanzania on 14th and 15th with their last match on 17th against Nigeria.
Ghana’s best record at this tournament has been 3rd place in Zambia 2014, and winners of the 2103 edition which was hosted by South Africa and are poised to win it again.
The team, over a year now, has been training every weekend and in four weeks before their departure, won all four trial matches with Everest, BGC, Supermax and the senior team.
Team Manager for the U-19 side, Henry Benjamin Ackom believes they none of the countries poses a threat in the tournament ahead of their trip to South Africa.
“We don’t have any threat at all. Of course, with the kind of preparations we have had, if we don’t win it, I will be very much disappointed.
“We won it in South Africa the last time and we are ready to win it again. We have only lost to Tanzania and Zambia previously but not ready to lose to them again.
Head Coach Francis Kofi Bakiweyem and Team Manager, Henry Benjamin Ackom, together with 14 players, left on the trip with one eye on the sole ticket to battle for.
