Guinea Bissau Books Maiden Nations Cup Ticket

Guinea Bissau book a maiden ticket to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) next with a hard earned home win over Zambia in the penultimate round of matches.

The spirited host held their nerves to clinch a very late winner at home to the 2012 continental champions in a five goal thriller. Silva’s strike late into injury time won the game for the Foxes and a ticket to the 2017 continental showdown.

Zezinho opened the flood gate for the motivated Foxes at the Estadio Lino Correra in the opening 15 minutes of the game before Collins Mbesuma leveled for the much fancied visitors.

Experience centre forward Christopher Katongo then followed up with another equalizer for the Chipolopolo after Mendy’s stunner midway through the first half.

The hosts later confirmed the ticket to Gabon with a winner seven minutes into time added on to send the fully packed Estadio Lino into a frenzy mood as they ended a run of 22 years without continental football since joining the qualifiers in 1994.

Guinea Bissau surged top of the log with 10 points in the five games they have played in the group. Congo can join Guinea Bissau in Gabon next year if they can get the better of the Foxes on home soil in the last round of matches.
