Mourinho has won the battle to keep David de Gea at Manchester United.
According to sources close to AS, the Spanish international wants to remain at the English club and – at least for the moment – will not be making the move to Real Madrid. David is very keen to immerse himself in the new projectunder the leadership of the Portuguese managerwho has been in touch with the goalkeeper while on international duty in France.
After last summer’s fiasco in the attempted signing of the Spanish number one by Real Madrid, many will be delighted that this situation has been resolved early this year rather than it hanging over both clubs.
Keylor Navas has certainly demonstrated his qualities to Los Blancos in their Champions League winning season and fans at the Bernabeu will not be too disappointed in this news.
The Old Trafford faithful, on the other hand, are likely to be absolutely delighted that their three-time player of the season has decided to stayeven without the prospect of games in Europe’s premier club competition.
Real Madrid did have an ace up their sleeves when it came to the signing of the highly regarded player no matter what United wanted.
An option to purchase De Gea had been agreed although they would have had to stump up 50 million euros to make it a reality.
The Spaniard had inserted this clause into his new contract with United that he signed last year after the failed move but this also meant extending his time left in England to 2019.
