Napoli In Pursuit of Newcastle Striker

Napoli are the latest team to join the fight to sign Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum according to a report from Football Italia.

The Italian club, who Rafa Benitez has managed in the past, have been trying to sign Piotr Zielinski and had even even agreed a fee with Udinese, but reports have said that he aiming to scupper that move as he is in favour of joining Liverpool.

So in preparation of that move failing, Napoli have been sounding out other targets and Wijnaldum has gone to the top of their list. Despite Newcastle having a poor season where they ended up being relegated from the Premier League, Wijnaldum impressed after scoring 13 goals in 48 appearances and that has attracted plenty of interest.

There is already another Italian team in the race to sign Wijnaldum as Roma are very interested in signing the attacking midfielder and several premier League teams are also said to be close to making approaches which include Southampton and Everton.

Wijnaldum came through the Sparta Rotterdam academy before moving to PSV and making his professional debut there. Over four years in Eindhoven he built his reputation and moved to Newcastle for a reported fee of £14.5million. And while Newcastle were poor in the one season he has been there, he impressed with his goal tally.
