Four GPL Clubs Suspected Of Match-Fixing


Four Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs are being investigated by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for alleged match-fixing.




The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), according to the president of the Ghana FA,Kwesi Nyantakyi, wrote to the country’d football governing to investigate a premier league match involving Liberty Professionals and Bechem United last season.




The GFA President also revealed that he received phone calls hinting him of the results of league matches involving Bechem United, Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars this season of which the outcome were same.




The FA conducted its internal investigations, but the results were panky, thus, they are embarking on an undercover investigation to unravel the issue of suspected match fixing in the country.




“FIFA wrote to us to investigate into Liberty Professionals’ 3-2 win against Bechem United last season. Also I had calls from some individuals before the league games between Bechem United and Aduana Stars regarding the outcome of those games and they came to pass.




“A betting company in South Africa also wrote to us. At the moment we are embarking on an undercover investigation to ascertain the truth concerning that matter and advise ourselves,” he Kwesi Nyantakyi said it during a Stakeholders seminar held at University of Professionals Studies, Legon on Friday.




Bechem United lost the two Brong Ahafo derbies, 0-1 against Berekum Chelsea and 2-4 against Aduana Stars in away league games.
