Ghana’s Abdul Wahid Omar lost to Argentine’s Pro Alberto Ezequiel Melian in the Men’s 56kg Bantamweight bout yesterday as he failed to progress to the round of 16.
Ghana’s sole boxer at this years’ event was hoping to reignite Ghana’s Olympic dream with a spirited performance but failed in his quest
All three judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 all in favor of Melian who really showed his class as an Amateur International Boxing Authority(AIBA) Pro.
Ghana is now left with twelve athletes in contention for medals at the Games, after two swimmers Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson and a judoka athlete Szandra Szogedi got eliminated from the competition earlier.
Up next for Ghana is Weightlifter Christian Amoah who will compete in the Men’s 85kg category today becoming the first Male Weightlifter for Ghana at the Olympics.
