Why Pogba Is Suspended Against B"Mouth

The Football Association has announced that Man Utd new signing, Paul Pogba, is suspended for Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The midfielder only joined United from Juventus for £89m in the early hours of Tuesday however, his name has appeared on a list of four players, including Chris Smalling, tweeted by the FA as having been suspended for this weekend’s fixtures.

Pogba’s ban results from his accummulation of two yellow cards in last season’s Coppa Italia. The second card came in the final, which was his last game for Juventus.

In accordance with article 12 of Fifa’s Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players, it is stated that: “Any disciplinary suspension imposed on a player prior to a transfer must be enforced or applied by the new association at which the player is registered.”

“The former association is obliged to notify the new association of any sanction in writing and upon issuing the ITC (International Transfer Certificate).”

Stoke City’s attacking midfielder, Xherdan Shaqiri suffered a similar penal measure when the Switzerland midielder moved from Inter Milan to Stoke in 2015.

Joey Barton served a similar suspension as a result of his actions on the final day of the 2012/13 season, when he was sent off for a clash with Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez and responded by lashing out at City players; Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany before attempting to confront Mario Balotelli.

Barton in the next transfer window, signed for French giants, Olympique Marseille, but had to wait to mark his debut in Europa League group games against Fenerbahce.

Pogba’s anticipated United debut is now likely to be against Southampton at Old Trafford next Friday.
