The Obuasi Municipal Circuit had their first ever Inter Basic School Cricket Competition last Thursday and Friday.
The two day competition, under the supervision of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), saw Anglican JHS boys beating five other schools to the top prize in the games that were played on an exclusive Cricket Pitch.
Teachers as well as Education officers were there to witness Cricket in its beautiful state and standard, as the GCA continues to enlarge the knowledge base of people about the game.
Because of time factor, 4 girls each were selected from Obuasi Presby JHS, Obuasi Anglican JHS and St. Joseph Catholic JHS, to form “Mission Girls” Team, while Obuasi Complex JHS, New Nsuta JHS and Kwabena Fori JHS also formed “Cluster Girls” Team.
Their straight finals therefore had Mission Girls winning by 8 Wickets, after fielding first. Cluster Girls made 84 runs, 5 wickets in 15 overs while Mission Girls made 86 runs, 2 wickets in 14.4 overs.
The boys had a straight knockout from the preliminary, after which Anglican JHS (87 runs, 6 wickets in 14.3 overs) beat St. Joseph JHS (86 runs, 6 wickets in 15 overs) by 4 wickets while Kwabena Fori JHS drew by.
Anglican although stressed from their previous game went ahead to defeat Kwabena Fori (79 runs, 5 wickets in 15 overs) by 6 wickets, making 80 runs 4 wickets in 13.3 overs.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Head Coach of the Obuasi Municipal Circuit, William Kanchoba expressed his delight for a successful completion.
“It was well organized, and it was very successful. It was also very competitive as some teachers from the various schools and officers from the Education office came to watch. It was very very nice, I don’t even know how to describe it”, Kanchoba said.
There was only one trophy for the girls which went to Mission Girls team but two trophies for the boys, with Anglican JHS lifting the giant of the trophies and Kwabena Fori receiving the runners up trophy.
