Ghana legend Abedi Pele says former GFA chairman Ben Koufie must be credited for the sustained World Cup qualification of the Black Stars.

Ghana have begun another campaign towards qualifying for another World Cup finals with progress to the final phase following a 2-0 win over Comoros on Tuesday.

The Black Stars have been to every single World Cup finals since its debut appearance in Germany 2006.

Several groups and individuals have been lauded for this feat but former Ghana captain Abedi Pele says a chunk of the plaudits should be given to Ben Koufie for insisting on the use of youthful players.

“If Ghana has been to three World Cups, they also have to give great and big thanks to Ben Kouffie,” he said.

“Because Koufie was the one who started with the Essiens and the U20’s and pushed Ghanaians to use them. That is in Mali 2002.

“And since then, Ghana has never looked back.”

Ben Koufie served as the chairman of the Ghana FA from 2001 to 2003 during which period he launched his famous five-year development plan which focused largely on youth development.
