GFA Should "STOP" Teams From "Footing" Refs Bills On Matchdays - Ex Ref

Give Refs ‘Better’ Treatment And Teams Can’t Influence Them – Ex Premier League Ref

Ghanaian referees have been accused by clubs, sports pundit, football spectators and some stakeholders in the game for accepting bribes and tarnishing the image of the game that has taken a nose-dive.

In 2015 a former Ghana Premier League referee Kwame Nsiah Boafo admitted that most referees officiating in the local league receive bribes from club officials to influence matches. Mr. Boafo said, “Bribery is part of refereeing. That is why I don’t get closer to refereeing after becoming a reverend minister, because I don’t want people to associate me with it. I have received bribes on several occasions that I can’t even recollect.”

King Faisal owner and bank roller, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, alleged that every football administrator in Ghana pay bribe or has paid bribe before to referees which has led to the collapse of the domestic game. He said this before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry set up to find the reasons behind Ghana’s abysmal performance at the FIFA 2014  World Cup in Brazil.

The ex- Ghanaian premier league referee and now a reverend minister has called on the Ghana football association to step-in and treat referees as they deserve and curb the likely act of receiving bribes to influence matches as it happened in the famous Calciopoli in the Italian Serie A that got Juventus relegated.

Speaking to Boss 93.7 fm in Kumasi, Mr. Nsiah Boafo said, “I suggest the GFA should be in-charge of the referees – food, hotel, security and all that is needed for referees to protect our game just as international referees enjoy.”

If this and anything that (the GFA deems necessary) is available to a referee to officiate fairly is provided there will be no need for teams to suggest they’ve been robbed especially as is the cry of many away teams.

The 2015/16 Ghana premier league kicks off on February 20 and such worries should be dealt with before the season that will begin without a sponsor is ruined further by bribery and corruption allegations.
