Kotoko Determined To Play Veria Despite Setback

[ad_1]

Asante Kotoko insists they will not cancel their international friendly match against Veria FC despite the massive setback suffered over the organization of the game.
The Ghana FA refused to sanction the match which was originally scheduled to be played on November 15 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The game failed to get the GFA approval due to the Black Stars 2018 World Cup qualifier return leg match against Comoros to be played at the same venue on November 17.
Authorities want to preserve the state of the pitch in Kumasi for Ghana’s competitive match against Comoros rather than giving it out to Kotoko for their international friendly against the Greek side.
This is the latest setback in attempts to have the dethroned Premier League champions play an international friendly to mark the club’s 80th anniversary.
Organizers of the game had initially announced Petrolul as Kotoko’s opponents only for the Romanian club to pull out due to their heavy domestic fixtures.
The recent setback has thus led to calls to Kotoko to cancel any further attempts to arrange an international match since conditions appear not to be in their favour.
But the club’s Operations Manager George Kennedy in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM insists they will forge ahead with plans to play the international friendly due to the financial commitment already invested by organizers.
“We are not canceling the match because of the commitment already made by the agents,” he said.
“They first brought down Petrolul officials for a press conference but the match couldn’t come on and then they brought Veria FC also for a press conference.
“Now we are being told we can’t have access to the pitch because of a national assignment.
“I however want to make it clear that Kotoko is still committed to honouring this match, we only await a new date for the game.”
