Emotional: Alhaji Hearts Weeps As He Watches For Heroes Train At Hearts Park

Call it tears of joy and you won’t be far from being right, but the tears that rolled down the cheeks of former Board and Management member of Hearts of Oak Alhaji Hearts, has nothing to do with joy.

The affable Alhaji Hearts was at the former Hearts of Oak training grounds, known as ‘Hearts Park’ located opposite the Department of National Lotteries head office in Accra, to watch the CAF Champions League, Super Cup and Confederations Cup winning squads train as they prepare for Sunday’s friendly match against the present Hearts team.

It was a joy to behold as these Club heroes selflessly trained on Friday afternoon, but the happy euphoria was briefly contaminated with grief and sorrow as the highly emotional Alhaji Hearts shed tears minutes after arriving at the training grounds.

After acknowledging cheers from the Hearts fans who had gathered to watch the training, Alhaji Hearts monitored proceedings for a few minutes but to the surprise of all including the players, he burst out in tears asking “is this our Hearts of Oak?

No one knows what might have triggered the emotions but it is believed that upon seeing the likes of Charles Taylor, Dong Bortey, Acquah Harrison, Yaw Amankwah Mireku, Dan Quaye, Sammy Adjei, Eben Dida, James Nanor, Frank Turkson among others, he remembered the good old days when the Accra-based Club was a terror when it came to football in Ghana and Africa and compared it to the rot in the Club at the moment, one that has seen it go tropyless for over 6 years.

“Look at them! Playing with so much pride after all these years. I don’t think we can have any crop of playrs a dedicated and talented as these guys”.

“Looking at them makes me see that our dear Club is dying, if not already dead”, Ahaji Harts told sportscrusader.com.

It took the funny jokes of Bernard Dong Bortey coupled with some encouraging words from the former players that “it shall be well”, to see Alhaji Hearts smile again.
