Ashantigold defender Lawrence Lartey is training with ABSA Premiership side, Ajax Cape Town in a bid have a deal signed for the ongoing season in South Africa.
The junior international comes with an impressive pedigree, having captained the Ghanaian under-20 team at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, where they won a bronze medal after beating Iraq 3-0 in the third and fourth place playoff.
He has also represented Ghana at under-17 and under-23 level.
The 22-year-old helped Ashanti Gold win league honours last season and was selected for the Ghana Premier League team of the season.
He can play both as a fullback but made his name at centre back.
Lartey has previously had trials in Croatia at Dinamo Zagreb.
Ajax who are seeking replacements to strengthen their defence, tested him again on Tuesday when they played a friendly against National First Division side Milano United.
Lartey had previously been in Ajax’s sights two years ago when he was recommended by then coach Muhsin Ertugral, who had been part of the Fifa Technical Study Group at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup.
But a R1-million deal fell through after his Ghanaian club said it was too little.
