Blame: Our Defenders Failed Us - Kotoko CEO

Lack Of Concentration Cost Kotoko

Kumasi Asante Kotoko played Al-Ittihad of Tripoli on Tuesday in the Ghanaian club’s first game of a three team international friendly tournament.

The Porcupine warriors lost by 2 – goals to 1 in a game that has been reviewed as a game of two halves. The home side, Al-Ittihad started well and took full advantage of the opportunites in the opening 15 minutes and punished Kotoko with two quick goals. The Ghanaian side, Kotoko picked themselves up after the goals and dominated the second half of the game with numerous chances created and a majority of ball possession.

Kotoko had divided their team into two with the second team remained in Ghana and won the maiden editions of GHALCA First Trust G6 whilst the first team travelled to Libya.

In an interview with Boss FM in Kumasi, CEO of Kotoko assessed the teams performance and that of the referee and in his view, “in the first 15 minutes of the match, the defenders lacked concentration and that was what caused our defeat. The players were told of how North African teams play with their famous high pressing style of play, so we (management and the technical team) were surprised the players were caught off guard.”

Nicknamed the ‘Lord of the green turf’, Opoku Nti added, “In football it (defeat) happens. I can assure you (the fans) we will review the video footage of the game so we don’t repeat the mistakes.”
