Concerned: No Sponsorshp Will Be Suicidal For Clubs

Clubs Will Struggle Without Sponsorship

The Ghana premier league will commence on the 20th of February, this news should have brought much joy to clubs but has been met with mixed reactions.

Some clubs claim to have already spent beyond their expenditure and with 2014/15 premier league headline sponsor, First Capital plus now Capital Bank’s decision to temporarily hold with their sponsorship deal means the league will start without a sponsor and that has raised a huge concern of worry for the clubs as even with sponsorship deals Ghanaian clubs can barely have enough financially. Spectatorship has declined and as such affected stadium revenue for which most clubs rely on to manage the day-to-day activities of the club.

Medeama SC will represent Ghana in CAF confederation competition after annexing the MTN FA trophy but the joy and zeal to perform – with the money zone the target in participating in Africa goes along with financial backing and it is this that has got Ben Kesse, administrative manager of the mauve-and-yellow worried and crying over the absence a headline sponsor for the league now that a date to commence the league is known.

Speaking to Boss FM 93.7 in Kumasi, Kesse said, “Clubs here in Ghana are struggling to attract sponsors and that is difficult enough. Should the GFA fail to find a sponsor for the league then it will be difficult to run the various clubs for the season.

Just imagine, a Club travel to Wa for a premier league, calculate how is involved – hotel, vehicle (bus) to carry the team around and so on becomes a challenge. As you know fans are not matches in their numbers and that is taking s huge toll on clubs during matchdays, in the end an amount of just Ghc500 is all what the club is left with.

Medeama SC were initially scheduled to play Kotoko in a friendly match at Baba Yara sports stadium but has been cancelled due the the two teams first meeting of the 2015/16 season scheduled matchday 3.
