Former President John Kufour makes "substantial" contribution to musical band of Asamoah Gyan

Former President John Kufour has made a significant financial contribution to the musical band of Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars captain received the undisclosed cash when he visited the former President on Saturday to thank him for attending the launch of the band last week.

Kufour was one of several high profile personalities to have attended a ceremony to launch the ‘Asa Band’.

It was during the ceremony held at the State Banquet Hall that for the former President announced he will be making a ‘significant’ contribution in the exercise to raise funds as seed money for the band.

Asamoah Gyan, accompanied by his elder brother, Baffour, visited the residence of the former president over the weekend with the sole aim of thanking him for gracing the occasion with his presence.

They were however stunned when the former President decided to immediately redeem the pledge he made on the night by presenting them with the ‘significant’ undisclosed amount.

Former President Kufour remains one of the biggest fans of Asamoah Gyan with their relationship dating way back.

Asamoah Gyan’s father, George Baffour, was a junior to former President Kufour during their time in secondary school.

Kufour himself had several dealings with Asamoah Gyan during his eight-year term as President where he developed a personal likeness to the Black Stars.

He is famous for convincing the Gyan brothers of Asamoah and Baffour from withdrawing from the Black Stars squad during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations where Asamoah in particular – playing half fit – had been widely abused for his lack of goals during that tournament.
