Kumasi Asante Kotoko assistant coach, Maichael Osei has blamed the club’s failure to win any trophy last t on lengthy pre-season the team underwent due to the delay of the Ghana Premier league.
Michael Osei who has never disappointed any of his bosses (Didi Dramani and David Duncan) believe Kotoko had a squad capable of winning the, but players were overstretched before they kicked competitive football.
“We didn’t start well last season and that affected us negatively because we had a lenlghty pre-season,” Michael Osei told Kumasi-based radio station, Boss FM.
Kotoko won the Ghana premier league thrice on the bounce, but were dethroned by Ashanti Gold last season.
They qualified to the finals of the MTN FA Cup, but lost in a bizarre circumstances to Medeama SC at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
Michael Osei who was at the dugout for Kotoko at the just ended G-6 invitational tournament, a comletition he ended up winning is optimistic Kotoko won’t go trophyless next season.
“We cannot afford to lose the league title again. We failed to win a single trophy last season, i don’t accept that because that’s not the Kotoko we know. Kotoko is a big club and must always be at the summit.”
The Porcupine Warriors have been at the summit in pre-season, winning three trophies and the man who has served as a player and now a coach is certain trophies are not from reach.
“We’ve had a very good preseason so an i am certain we will win trophies next season.” He stated.
The Ghana Premier League delay ghost is far from being exorcised, but Michael believes the team learnt from last season’s lapses and will not suffer the same fate again.
“We learnt from the what we went through last season and we can’t repeat such mistakes.’’
The date for the commencement of the Premier League is unknown but if media reports are anything to go by, then it should start in mid-February.
