Man Mauled To Death By His Own Dog

A 22-year-old man has died after being attacked by his own dog in Preston.

 

The victim, named on a Facebook tribute page as Liam Hewitson, was treated at the scene by paramedics but he subsequently died of his injuries.

 

The dog, which belonged to the man, was taken from the terraced house in Dundonald Street, and was put down by vets.

Police have not said what breed of dog was involved, but unconfirmed reports suggest it was a pit bull terrier.

 

Officers were called to the address by the ambulance service at around 3.45pm on New Year’s Day, following reports a man had been bitten by a dog.

 

One man, who said he was the victim’s cousin, said “he had an epileptic fit” at the time of the attack.

 

One woman shouted to neighbours not to reveal anything about the victim.

 

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances and my thoughts very much remain with his family who are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.”
