Nii Lantey Is Best Man For Sports Ministry - Foh Amoaning

Former Ghana Boxing Authority chairman Moses Foh Amoaning says Nii Lantey Vanderpuje is the best candidate to head the Youth and Sports Ministry in the country.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuje was named minister designate for the sports ministry to replace Dr. Mustapha Ahmed last week.

The former sports journalist with state media house, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will become the eighth politician to head the ministry since 2009, after a parliamentary committee vetting.

Many sports and political connoisseurs has described the sports ministry as a ‘lions den’, but Moses Foh Amoaning is optimistic Nii Lantey has the character to head the office.

“If we are talking about someone who has the requisite qualifications for the Sports Ministry, I will rate him among the best who can work in the office,” Moses Foh Amoaning told Atinka FM.

He added: “He is someone who has practiced in the sports field before. From his student days, he’s played football, he was also an athlete, he bought into the notion of boxing and was a boxing promoter.

“He is also gotten involved in sports administration as head of the Weightlifting Federation before Ben Nunoo Mensah came into office. When I was the chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority, he was also a boxing promoter. He had managers license, in fact he managed most of the boxers.

“He was very good in what he did. He’s got the requisite knowledge not only in football but in boxing, athletics and all the other sports. Apart from that, he’s a very strong character and can withstand the weather,” Moses Foh Amoaning noted.

Former sports ministers, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Mahama Ayariga and Dr. Mustapha Ahmed all left the office in a controversy for different reasons.
