Former Premier League Player Found Dead In River
A former Ivory Coast and Wigan Athletic player has been found dead in the River Rhine in Germany.
Steve Gohouri, 34, was reported missing by his family to German Police last month after communication with him was lost as he was en route to Paris to meet his family following the Christmas party of his club, TSV Steinbach.
Gohouri had a varied career, beginning his career in France with Paris Saint Germain, and went on to play for the Ivory Coast national team. He played for Wigan Athletic between 2010 – 2012.
He also played in Italy, for Bologna FC and Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany and also represented clubs in Switzerland – Yverdon-Sport, BSC Young Boys and FC Vaduz.
He played in defence for Wigan Athletic, appearing 42 times between 2010 – 2012. The club tweeted today: “We are saddened to hear reports of our former defender Steve Gohouri passing away. Our thoughts are with his family.”
He had been capped 12 at the national side for Ivory Coast.
