Shanghai SIPG Look For New Strike Partner For Gyan
Chinese super league side, Shanghai SIPG have targeted Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, head coach at Shanghai SIPG had initially tried to lure the former Stoke striker but the winter transfer window has revived the deal and is expected to gather pace in the next few days.
Eriksson wants to take Jones on an initial loan with a view to a permanent switch. The Trinidad and Tobago front man has played regularly for the Bluebirds this season; scoring five goals in 20 appearances.
The lure of huge riches in China could prove to good a proposition for Jones to turn down this month. Likewise, Cardiff are not against offloading Jones’ salary off their wage bill.
There has been huge investment into the Chinese Super League in recent months and there is a desire to land a number of player from Europe to raise the division’s profile.
Jones will compete for a starting berth with Ghana black stars captain, Asamoah Gyan but with the latter’s recent injury lay-off and inconsistent performance has led to media reports claiming he might be sold if he does not improve.
