Shanghai SIPG turn sights on Kenwyne Jones to partner Asamoah Gyan after failing to lure Wayne Rooney

Shanghai SIPG have targeted signing Cardiff City’s Kenwyne Jones to partner Asamoah Gyan in attack for the coming season.

The Chinese club have shifted their focus on Jones, 31, following reports of a failed £75m bid to prize Wayne Rooney away from Manchester United.

Sven-Goran Eriksson clearly wants to bolster his side with some more firepower as they look to wrestle the domestic league title from Guangzhou Evergrande.

Shanghai SIPG have begun preparations for the new season by pitching camp in Spain but reports in the UK suggests moves are already in motion to bring in Kenwyne Jones.

The former Sunderland and Stoke City striker has turned down a contract extension offer from Cardiff City to give credence to these reports.

He is also linked to clubs in the UAE but Eriksson is looking to use his immense influence having coached for years in England to lure Jones to Shanghai SIPG.
