Players Should Stay And Make The League More Attractive – Opoku Nti
The Ghana premier is battling a lot of factors to meet both the desire of the Ghana football association and the supporters and fanatics of the local league. Player exodus leaving the league after a season, sponsorship deals, pitch quality to name a few have been noted to be some of the reasons and solutions ought to be searched immediately to ‘cure’ them.
Many Ghanaian players have cried over how their Ghanaian clubs treat them – delayed monthly salaries or winning bonuses that are promised but not marched with the delivery. The footballing pitches have also contributed to the poor display that many fans have frowned at. Football fans have declined attending matches each season and it has been so drastic that recently the GFA organised a two-day seminar to address the dwindling fortune of the local league.
In a radio interview with Boss FM in Kumasi, CEO of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Opoku Nti spoke patiently and pleaded to the local players to stay a little longer and develop into better.
He said, “Stephen Oduro has always been hailed by fans because of consistency in his play though age has caught up with him. Lately when a player is crowned goal king or awarded the most valuable player the next season he leaves for greener pastures and it is this that is contributing to the decline of the league.
“The fans want to see quality players and play as well so if the players leave then you can understand why the supporters will choose not to come to the stadia”, he added.
