Members of the 2000 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League Cup of Accra Hearts of Oak and the Confederations Cup winner’s squad of 2005 will engage in a special friendly match on Sunday, January 31.
The match scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium, forms part of the activities lined up to restore the phobian glory after five years being in the wilderness.
The game dubbed “Operation bring back our former glory”. will see both players engaged in a friendly match to whip up enthusiasm in the club.
A statement signed by Yaw Amankwah Mireku said the old players wish to use this match to commemorate the clubs anniversary and also use this platform to revive the support base of the club.
It said, Hearts of Oak beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, to lift the maiden CAF Cup in 2005 and eleven years on, the players wishes to revive the spirit of the Oak Tree, which derive its source from the number eleven.
This match is to compliment the effort of management towards the operation bring back the past glory, since the performance of the club both local and continental have not been impressive hence killing the enthusiasm of the supporters.
